Cholita Bravas is a portrait of the women who taught a continent to wear its pride out loud. Raised by a single mother in the Peruvian Andes, I learned early that brave women aren't an exception — they are the architecture of a household, a culture, a country. So when I heard that Cholitas, Indigenous women in Bolivia, had begun climbing mountains and entering wrestling rings — all while wearing the polleras and bowler hats their grandmothers were once mocked for — I had to meet them. Not long ago, Cholita was a slur. Today, it is a self-claimed name, worn like the layered skirts themselves: deliberate, beautiful, defiant. Coming from a neighboring country with shared roots, this work felt like family business. So I brought my mother with me as my assistant. She said yes before I finished the sentence.
